The subject of the new remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory/ Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie has really been buzzing around a few of my friend circles.
Heres the dilemma Should this remake be happening in the first place? What is it about the first movie that leaves us unfulfilled??
I have honestly been struggling over this! I Adore Tim Burton and trust his judgmentBUT why oh why did he pick Chocolate Factory? Isnt there something else out there he should be doing instead? Is it even possible for him to do the first film any justice?
From what I know, it will be a different movie. I heard there was going to be no singing numbers and I assume it will be dripping with Burtons style.
Basically Ive heard two sides to the argument:
1. I am a purist. There is nobody who can replace Gene Wilders performance as Wonka. The oompah loompah song is legendary. The factory, inside and out, was perfect and any other interpretation would be forced and less fantastic. Why ruin a good thing, baby?
2. Tim Burton is a cool motherfucker and will rock the hell out of Chocolate Factory and put a darker spin on it. Johnny Depp is an amazing actor and will take the role of Wonka to new levels.
Interesting. I am torn.
I adore Burton. I adore Depp. I am concerned that this movie is a bad idea. All I can see is this movie trying too hard to be unlike the first one. I fell in love with Chocolate Factory. Period. Gene Wilder was gorgeous, the children were gorgeous and the Factory was more than my mind ever imagined. Remember the simple music that played when Wonka first opened the door to the chocolate room? I would get chills. It was a childs paradise! I am doubtful that this new movie will give me that sensation.
I will say that I would love to be proven wrong. I really wouldnt mind it if Burton wowed me with his new ideas. I mean, take a look at his movies. This guy is wonderful. I really hope this is his best movie yet. Also, Johnny Depp IS a great actor and his roles have been so eccentric that Im glad its him playing Wonka, and nobody else is. Besides, Burton and Depp make an unstoppable team, as far as Im concerned and I wouldnt be surprised if this movie makes it big. They just have to do it right, without holding back a thing.
What do you think?? I really want to know.
Tell me Im hot well get naked.
